The OFFEN Family

GEORGE OFFEN was born circa 1845 in Smarden, Kent (source : 1881 and 1891 censuses).

He married MARY SMITH in 1867 in Smarden, Kent (source : Collette Kendall). This marriage was registered in June quarter 1867 (source : Ancestry England and Wales, Civil Registration Index , county Kent, volume 2a, page 917). On the 1891 census, George Offen (head, 45, butcher and farmer (employer), born Smarden Kent), his wife MARY (43), and their eight children were listed at 80 High Street, Marden, Kent. On the 1901 census, George (listed as George Offin), a 56-year-old wine and spirit merchant, his wife Mary (53), their daughter EMILY and grandchildren (?) EDITH (16, born Marden Kent) and HAROLD (4, born Egerton, Kent) are all listed in Cranbrook, Kent (source : 1901 census index, household still needs checking).

Mary obviously died before 1913, when George remarried. There is a death listed for a 64-year-old MARY OFFEN in December quarter 1910, which is probably her (source : Free BMD, district Sevenoaks, volume 2a, page 435 ). George remarried EMILY PRING in 1913 in Tonbridge, Kent (source : Collette Kendall).
