The BOURNE Family

HENRY BOURNE was born circa 1819 in Hellingly, Sussex (source : 1851 census ). He was baptised on 10th September 1819 in Hellingly, Sussex (source : David Packham ). He was a cordwainer journeyman (source : David Packham ), and on his son WILLIAM HENRY's wedding entry in 1880, he was described as a bootmaker (deceased) (source : PAR 469/1/3/4, page 42, entry 83).

He married CHARLOTTE ? (source : David Packham ). She was born circa 1824 in Alciston, Sussex (source : 1851 and 1871 census). There is a marriage listed for HENRY BOURNE and CHARLOTTE WOODALL in December quarter 1842 which could be them (source : Free BMD, district Lewes, volume 7, page 253).

On the 1851 census, Henry, a 31-year-old cordwainer, his wife Charlotte (26) and their three children are all listed at Barley Mow House, Alciston, Sussex. They obviously started out their married life in the bride's village of Alciston, before moving on to Selmeston, where the younger children were born, and finishing up in Upper Dicker/Arlington.

Henry was buried on 16th November 1865 in Upper Dicker, Sussex and the age given in the burial register is 47 years (source : David Packham ). Charlotte (a 46 year-old widow) and her children show up on the 1871 census in Arlington. Charlotte probably died (or remarried, but unlikely) before 1881 because she does not show up on the 1881 census.
