(His name is given as JAMES OFFINS on the IGI.) She was born circa 1804 in Herstmonceux, Sussex (source : Collette Kendall).

On the 1871 census, James, a 69-year-old bricklayer, his wife Hannah (69, laundress), three grandchildren EMILY OFFEN (15, born Ewhurst Sussex) , WILLIAM OFFEN and ELLEN WATSON, two servants and a boarder are at Church(?) House in Westfield, Sussex.

James died in 1874 (source : Collette Kendall).

  1. JAMES OFFIN was baptised in 1825 in Westfield, Sussex (source : Collette Kendall).

  2. WILLIAM OFFIN was baptised in 1826 in Westfield, Sussex (source : Collette Kendall). He died in 1848 (source : Collette Kendall).

  3. CORDELIA OFFIN was baptised in 1829 in Westfield, Sussex (source : Collette Kendall). She married ALFRED BURGESS in 1846 in Westfield, Sussex (source : Collette Kendall). He was born circa 1821 in Burwash, Sussex (source : Collette Kendall) or 1814 (source : 1881 census). They had two children :
    JAMES A BURGESS (born circa 1860 in Westfield, Sussex) and
    GRACE A BURGESS (born circa 1869 in Hollington, Sussex) (source : 1881 census). On the 1881 census, Cordelia (52), her husband Alfred (67, gardener) and their two children, James (21, unmarried, unemployed carpenter) and Grace (12, scholar) were all at Battle Road in Hollington (Hastings), Sussex.

  4. ALFRED ABRAHAM OFFIN was baptised in 1830 in Westfield, Sussex (source : Collette Kendall). He married ANN SARAH GOODSELL on 17th September 1853 in Ewhurst, Sussex (source : IGI, Batch No.: M148041 Dates: 1558 - 1881 Source Call No.: 1067149 Type: Film Printout Call No.: NONE Type: Sheet: 00 ). The IGI lists an ANN SARAH GOODSELL, daughter of Richard and Susannah Goodsell, christened in Ewhurst, Sussex, on 8th July 1832 (source : IGI, Batch Number: 7316908 Sheet: 29 Source Call No.: 0822802 Type: Film ). They may have emigrated or died since they do not appear on the 1881 census.

  5. MARIANNE (MARY ANN) OFFIN was baptised in 1837 in Westfield, Sussex (source : Collette Kendall). She had two children :
    WILLIAM JAMES OFFIN (born circa 1856 in Westfield, Sussex) and
    FRANCIS SAMUEL OFFIN (born circa 1859 in Westfield, Sussex) (source : Collette Kendall).
    She married JAMES WATSON in 1858 in Westfield, Sussex (source : Collette Kendall). On the 1871 census, WILLIAM (15, born Westfield Sussex) and ELLEN WATSON (10, born Westfield Sussex) show up with their grandparents in Westfield, Sussex.

  6. JOHN OFFIN was baptised in 1839 in Westfield, Sussex (source : Collette Kendall). He married SUSANNAH ? (born circa 1834 in Folkestone, Kent) (source : Collette Kendall). He remarried RACHEL STUBBERFIELD in 1863 in Hollington, Sussex (source : Collette Kendall - the date appears to be wrong, judging by the 1881 census). She was born circa 1839 (source : Collette Kendall). They had a daughter : SARAH OFFIN (baptised 1841 in Eastbourne, Sussex) (source : Collette Kendall). On the 1871 census, at Broadmead Lane, Sanddale Cottage, Folkestone, Kent, we find John Offen (31, bricklayer, born Westfield Sussex) and Susannah Offen (34, laundress, born Folkestone Kent) lodging with WILLIAM and SUSANNAH BUSWELL. On the 1881 census, John (42, bricklayer, born Westfield), his wife Susannah (47, born Folkestone Kent) and a lodger WILLIAM OLLIVER (47, general labourer, born Brabourne Kent) are all at 1 Broadmead Ter C P in Folkestone, Kent.

  7. ANNE OFFIN was baptised in 1841 in Westfield, Sussex (source : Collette Kendall).
