He married SARAH ? before 1861, judging by the ages of their children. She was born circa 1834 in Wormshill, Kent (source : 1881 census).

On the 1871 census, John, a 39-year-old farm labourer, born Wishling(?), Kent, his wife Sarah (37, born Wormshill Kent) and their five children are all listed at Bottom Pond(?), Wormshill, Kent. John was a farm labourer on the 1881 census, living at Nepicar A Cottage, Wrotham, Kent, with his wife and children.

On the 1901 census, Sarah is aged 67 and living with 24-year-old Frances Usher (her daughter-in-law or granddaughter???) (born Kent Hollingbourne, sorter in paper mill) and 5-year-old FREDERICK USHER (her grandson or great-grandson???)(born Kent Wrotham). John presumably died before 1901 (source : 1901 census index, household needs checking).

JOHN USHER was born circa 1861 in Wormshill, Kent (source : 1871, 1881 and 1901 censuses) (There is a birth listed on Free BMD which COULD be him, but may not be � JOHN USHER, March quarter 1860, district Hollingbourne (covers Wormshill), volume 2a page 493). On the 1871 census, he was an 11-year-old scholar, living with his parents and family at at Bottom Pond(?), Wormshill, Kent. On the 1881 census, he was a 20-year-old unmarried farm labourer, living with his parents at Nepicar A Cottage, Wrotham, Kent. On the 1901 census, he was a 41-year-old farm labourer, living at Ditton Entire, Kent, with his wife MARY (ANN) ? (42, born Kent) and their children WILLIAM USHER (17, born Kent Stansted, under gardener domestic), FLORENCE (MAY) USHER (14, born Kent Leaveland), and ETHEL USHER (10, born Kent Ditton) (source : 1901 census index, household needs checking). There is a baptism for FLORENCE MAY USHER, to parents JOHN USHER and MARY ANN, on 13th March 1887 at St Mary's in in Platt, Kent, and another child for this couple (who would have been 16 on the 1901 census and no longer living with the family), EDITH ELIZABETH USHER , baptised on 12th July 1885 at St Mary's in in Platt, Kent (source : BVRI 2nd edition).

  3. HARRIETT USHER was born circa 1863 in Wormshill, Kent (source : 1871 census). On the 1871 census, she was an 8-year-old scholar, living with her parents and family at at Bottom Pond(?), Wormshill, Kent.

  4. THOMAS USHER was born circa 1866 in Wormshill, Kent (source : 1871 and 1881 censuses). On the 1871 census, he was aged 4 and living with his parents and family at at Bottom Pond(?), Wormshill, Kent. On the 1881 census, he was a 16-year-old farmer�s boy, living with his parents at Nepicar A Cottage, Wrotham, Kent.

  5. EDWIN HENRY USHER was born circa 1868 in Wormshill, Kent (source : 1871 and 1881 censuses) or Wrotham, Kent (source : 1901 census). On the 1871 census, he was aged 2 and living with his parents and family at at Bottom Pond(?), Wormshill, Kent. On the 1881 census, he was a 13-year-old scholar living with his parents at Nepicar A Cottage, Wrotham, Kent. He married GRACE ? (born circa 1863 in Wrotham, Kent) before 1901 (source : 1901 census). They had three children, EDWIN JOHN USHER , baptised on 9th June 1889 at St Mary's in Platt, Kent, ARTHUR FREDERICK USHER , baptised on 10th June 1894 at St Mary's in Platt, Kent, and FRANK USHER , baptised on 8th March 1896 at St Mary's in Platt, Kent (source : BVRI 2ne edition). On the 1901 census, he was a 32-year-old engine driver, living in Wrotham, Kent, with his wife Grace (37, born Kent Wrotham) and their children Edwin H(?)
